Introducing the SL Work Marketplace

The SL Work Marketplace, set to launch in Q1 2010, will be the first virtual world application and solution marketplace. Currently the Second Life Enterprise (SL Enterprise) Beta is completely disconnected from the main Second Life environment, and business applications and solutions in Second Life are currently not structured for enterprise-wide licensing. So, we’re creating Second Life Work Marketplace (SL Work Marketplace), where organizations can download entire regions, and their associated content, into their SL Enterprise Beta environment. The SL Work Marketplace is a win for SL Enterprise Beta customers because it gives them a wider variety of useful content out-of-the-box and it’s also a win for Solution Providers and SL content creators who can take advantage of a new market for their products and services.

The items available in the SL Work Marketplace will include collaboration tools, meeting and event solutions, training solutions, business avatars, business-oriented environments, and much more.

The SL Work Marketplace will begin as a pilot program, enabling Gold Solution Providers and Recommended Application Providers with enterprise-specific applications and content to list their content on the SL Work Marketplace website. In the future, Linden Lab will expand the SL Work Marketplace to deliver include applications and solutions for organizations in the main Second Life environment, as well. We will be announcing more about the program soon.
